Booking a wedding florist

One of the most common things we hear during a consultation is “I don’t know anything about flowers!” Most folks we talk to also have never planned a wedding before, or, at the very least, they are not wedding planning experts. We aren’t planning experts either, but we are flower experts! Here are some tips for booking a florist for your wedding.

When to book a florist
Ninety nine percent of the time you need to know your wedding date and venue before booking any other vendors. The exception to this rule: you have a vendor you are absolutely dying to work with and you are willing to plan your wedding around their availability. So, if you know you must have Fireweed at your wedding, then reach out to us after you get engaged and let’s pick a date that we’re available to cover your special day in florals! Otherwise, we’re happy to hear from you when you have your date and venue secured.

Generally speaking, most couples reach out to us 6-12 months ahead of their date.

What information to have with you for a consultation
We talk to most couples on the phone before sending an estimate, and there are certain questions we’ll ask you to get a feel for the vibe you want your wedding to have and where you want flowers on the big day.

Here are some things we’ll ask you about:
-What overall feeling do you want to create in the space(s)?
-Is your ceremony indoors or outdoors?
-What is your approximate guest count?
-What is your estimated budget for flowers?

Here are examples of what you don’t need to have worked out yet:
-exactly how many tables you’ll have at the reception
-if you want extra family members to wear bouts or corsages
-the type of installation you want for your ceremony
-your color palette
-any knowledge of flowers or flower names (that’s our job!)

We love working with your vision if you have a fully formed one, and we also love helping to create that vision! We can help envision your table designs, brainstorm the most epic installation, and even sort out a color palette than conveys perfectly the feeling you’re hoping to create. You don’t have to figure these things out on your own, and we adore being a part of this process!

What the booking process is like
Most wedding vendors operate with a similar booking process, and here’s ours:
1. Fill out the initial inquiry form here
2. We’ll reach out to set up a consultation call
3. After the call, we’ll send you a custom estimate
4. To book, you sign a contract and pay our deposit (usually 50% of the estimate total)

That’s it! Eight to twelve weeks before the big day we’ll check in again to make sure we’re still on the same page about vision, and then one month out we’ll get day-of details and you’ll pay the final balance. On the big day your only responsibility is to relax and soak in all the beautiful moments (and flowers)!
